Developing Nursing Researchers and Collaborative Research in Australia

In recent decades, many healthcare organisations have implemented strategies or initiatives to improve patient safety and quality of care, however, the impact of these are often not evaluated due to the lack of clinical research (Ball et al., 2016). Similarly, gaps between current research evidence and clinical practice exist due to the lack of evidence uptake or expertise to translate evidence into practice effectively.  Translating research evidence into clinical practice is a complex process that requires the collaborative efforts and close partnerships among researchers and clinicians (Graham & Tetroe, 2010; Straus et al., 2013).
In this talk, we discuss the collaborative models used in our collaborative nursing research, which involves nursing research academics working in partnership with critical care clinicians closely on conducting clinical research, building clinical nursing research capacity, and increasing research outputs. Two case studies will be presented to demonstrate how it worked and the outcomes they achieved. It is hoped that this will lead to future discussions among conference participants and their clinical or research partners to increase their future collaborative research.
