Nurses Make a Difference

A lot of patients in the Intensive Care Unit suffer from physical, psychosocial and cognitive impairments. They require holistic rehabilitation. Rehabilitation starts in the ICU and is the responsibility of the whole team. Nurses make a difference because, they are 24/7 at the patients’ bedside; they coordinate the team, visits and activities; they set daily goals; they are communicating with all involved professions; they support other professions in rehab activities; they perform own nursing rehab-activities; they comfort patients when another complication happens and progress is delayed; they are listening, talking, laughing and crying; they do small things so that patients and families feel better, and many other things. Nurses make a difference.
