BACCN Grants

The British Association of Critical Care Nurses (BACCN) invites its members to apply for a grant of up to a maximum of £1000. Funds may be used for attendance at conferences, practice development or towards research activity (e.g. transcription costs). The aim of these grants is to enhance skills, knowledge and competence in critical care nursing to improve patient care and outcomes.

  • To apply you must have been a BACCN member for a minimum of one year

  • Only one grant per year can be received

  • Applicants are expected to demonstrate how they will use the grant to enhance their own practice and to improve patient care and outcomes. 

  • Successful applicants will be expected as a minimum to submit a 500-word news report to Nursing in Critical Care News section.

  • Depending on how the award is to be used, successful applicants may consider submitting a full article to Nursing in Critical Care for peer review, or an abstract for oral presentation at the National BACCN conference (conference registration, accommodation and travel expenses to be met by the applicant).

Timescale & Information About The Funding

  • Grants are considered three times each year. The closing dates for all applications will be 16.00 on each of following 31st March, 31st July and 30th November of each year.

  • All applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application in writing within 6 weeks of the relevant closing date.

  • If you would like your application acknowledged when it is received, please confirm this in your email.

  • Recipients of awards will be required to submit invoices and/or receipts pertaining to the expenditure and also to submit the news report for the Nursing in Critical Care News section in order to receive payment.

  • In exceptional circumstances partial payment of grant may be possible and applicants will have to ensure that this is explicitly requested in their application

All sections must be completed. You should aim to demonstrate how the proposed grant will be used to:

  1. Have a positive impact on clinical practice

  2. Improve the patient experience

  3. Contribute to personal and professional development

  4. Advance the art and science of critical care nursing

All applications are blind peer reviewed and the decision made by reviewers is final.

 

PLEASE NOTE:

Applications that do not meet the stated terms and conditions, including the closing date, will not be accepted. Applications cannot be accepted for degree courses, postgraduate studies or salaries.

This process should not be used if you are applying for a Research Award – there is a separate application process for research awards.

You may only apply to one BACCN funding stream (e.g. BACCN Grants or BACCN Dragon’s Den) per year.
