Karin Gerber
Karin Gerber is an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Critical Care Outreach and the Lead Advanced Clinical Practitioner for Education & Workforce at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust. With more than thirty years of critical care experience, Karin brings together advanced autonomous clinical practice and strategic leadership to strengthen patient safety, improve the management of deteriorating patients, and support the development of the Advanced Clinical Practice workforce.
A long‑standing contributor to the BACCN, Karin serves as a National Board Member (Conference Lead). She has played a key role in shaping national professional standards through her contributions to the National Competency Framework for Registered Practitioners in Level 1 and Enhanced Care Areas, the National Critical Care Competency Framework—with specific focus on leadership and obstetric competencies—and the Critical Care Manual of Clinical Nursing Procedures, where she authored the chapter “Admitting a Critically Ill Patient.” She also serves as a peer reviewer for Nursing in Critical Care and has published widely on sepsis, rapid‑response systems, nurse prescribing, and critical care nursing during COVID‑19.
Beyond her professional commitments, Karin is passionate about open‑water swimming—especially in winter, is a self‑confessed parkrun obsessive, and loves travelling and discovering great coffee wherever she goes.
