British Thoracic Society: Respiratory Support Units

28th Jun 2021

A Respiratory Support Unit (RSU) is an area of enhanced care that enables a higher level of monitoring and respiratory intervention than would be expected for a routine ward environment.

The British Thoracic Society and Intensive Care Society have worked together to produce a guidance document outlining the standards of care and infrastructure for RSUs. This document is aimed at all healthcare professionals working as part of an RSU. It includes information for the development and implementation of RSUs during and outside surges in requirement for respiratory care. This document is available to download: https://www.brit-thoracic.org.uk/delivery-of-care/respiratory-support-units/
