Shibu was awarded a MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours list for the work he did with the promotion of organ donation among the minority communities in the UK. He was a Specialist Nurse with NHS Blood and Transplant and Community Volunteer and he received his award at Buckingham Palace on 5th December 2019.
He worked as a Specialist Nurse in Organ Donation with NHS Blood and Transplant in the South East Region of England. His work took him to many hospitals and critical care units across the UK to support families and hospital staff through the organ donation process and act as the key point of contact for organ donation within the hospital.
Prior to working as a SNOD, Shibu worked in the Critical Care Outreach Team at Medway Hospital in Kent, and he was a BACCN memeber for many years, including being on the Southern Region, Regional Committee
In parnership with St. George's University of London, he developed the world's first course on organ donation for healthcare professionals to understand the key processes in organ donation. This course has the endorsement of NHS Blood and Transplant as an approved programme of study.
